Doug is a proud, life-long resident of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He started taking photos as a hobby in high school at age 14. He would capture an image on film, develop the image in his high school dark room, and find joy in seeing his imagined pictures come to life through the process. He quickly turned that hobby and high school fun into professional work at age fifteen.
"My first professional job came from photographing a friend's day at the lake - water skiing, camping. At the end of the day, we returned to our camp site, and I sat on the bank with a gorgeous sunset before me. While the view through the lens hardly did it justice, I snapped a photo. Later, after showing the image to my friend, he asked me to print an 8x10, hung it on his wall, and paid me for the "work" I had fallen in love with doing."
From there, Doug did a lot of freelance photography working for newspapers, such as The Daily News Journal, The Murfreesboro Press, The Rutherford Courier and Cannon Courier of Rutherford and Cannon Counties in Tennessee. He also provided videography for News Channel 2 of Nashville and toured the country taking action photos and portraits of Spotted Horses and Tennessee Walking Horses. Over his 45+ years of photography experience, Doug has filmed and photographed numerous weddings, professionals, dancers, and newborns. Most recently, Doug has focused on real estate photography and weddings and is excited to continue in real estate and equine, with a focus on rodeo.
"Photography gives me a creative outlet. I create an image in my mind and I enjoy making it happen... or at least the thrill of trying. I have always loved the art I can create or showcase of others through photography. I'm not good at drawing or music, but I am a good photographer."
